How To Install Manjaro on VirtualBox

In this video we'll take a look at how to install Manjaro on VirtualBox.

Installing Manjaro on VirtualBox is a bit more tedious than other distros like Ubuntu or POP!_OS as it requires a lot of installing and rebooting and installing and rebooting ad nauseum.

After you have installed VirtualBox:
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Then, download the Majaro flavor of your choice from the Majaro website:
https://manjaro.org/download/

Next, you'll need to setup a new Virtual Machine (VM) with the following settings:

General Tab:
No changes

System Tab:
Motherboard: Adjust the Base Memory to at least 4096MB
Processor: Give it at least 2 cores

Display:
Screen: Set Video Memory to 128MB
Graphics Controller: Set to VBoxVGA

Storage:
Controller IDE: Mount the Manjaro ISO

Audio:
No changes

Network:
Adapter 1: Change Attached to setting to "Bridged Adapter"

That's it. Now start the VM.

Once the VM is up and running, double-click the "Install Manjaro" icon to start the install process.

Make the appropriate selections for the install options per your requirements.

After setup is complete, shut down the VM and unmount the Manjaro ISO.

Start the VM again and login to the desktop.

Run all the updates when prompted via the bubble in the top right of the screen.

Reboot.

Update the kernel to the 5.09 version.

Reboot.

Open a terminal.

Update the database:
$ sudo pacman -Syy (don't enter the dollar sign in any of these commands.. it's just to reference the terminal prompt.)

Then update your linux
$ sudo pacman -S linux

Reboot so new kernel loads.
$ sudo reboot

Open a terminal.

Then install linux-header.
$ sudo pacman -S linux-headers

Select the option that corresponds to the kernel you installed.

Reboot
$ sudo reboot

Now you can insert the Guest Additions CD.

Open the "File Systems" icon on the desktop.

Open the Guest Additions CD.

Open a terminal in the Guest Additions directory.

Run the VBoxLinux.run file with this command:
$ sudo bash VBoxLinux.run

Let the script finish.

Reboot
$ sudo reboot

That's it. Manjaro is setup and ready to go on your VM.
