Yellow leaves on your plant? Here's how to fix it |Darrell Smith

Why do the brown edges on my Calathea keep spreading?

Unfortunately, once a leaf is damaged, it usually won't turn green again.

That's why correcting the watering routine is so important.

The key is to catch the soil before it becomes too dry.

When checking your plant:

- Feel the soil regularly.
- If it's slightly dry near the top, it's usually time to water.
- Don't wait until the soil is dry deep down in the pot.

If the soil dries too much, the leaf damage has already started. Even after watering, the brown edges may continue to spread because the leaf tissue has already been affected.

Those damaged leaves are a record of past stress.

Instead of focusing on the old leaves, pay attention to the new growth.

New leaves are the best indicator of whether your care routine is working.

If new leaves emerge healthy and green:
Your watering is likely on track.

If new leaves begin developing brown edges:
Your watering schedule may still need adjustment.

Remember:

- Old damaged leaves may never fully recover.
- Healthy new growth is the real sign of success.
- Consistent moisture is more important than occasional heavy watering.

The goal isn't to save the damaged leaves—it's to make sure the next leaves grow in healthy and beautiful.
