Morning Report 11 Feb 25:Tech lifts Wall Street, steelmakers climb on Trump tariff threat

US sharemarkets rose on Monday, with most heavyweight technology stocks rebounding after a steep fall last week, while steelmakers surged after US President Donald Trump said he would impose 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports. Nucor rose 5.6%, Steel Dynamics was up 4.9%, Cleveland-Cliffs jumped 17.9% and Alcoa gained 2.2%. United States Steel also got a boost, up 4.8%, after Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary said Nippon Steel was considering proposing a bold change in its plan to buy the company. McDonald's jumped 4.8% after the burger chain posted a surprise rise in its global comparable sales in the fourth quarter. Rockwell Automation gained 12.7% after the automation products maker posted a higher-than-expected profit for the first quarter. AI chipmakers Nvidia and Broadcom rallied 2.9% and 4.5%, respectively. Super Micro Computer rose 17.6% ahead of a business update on Tuesday. The Dow Jones index rose , the S&P 500 index gained and the Nasdaq index added .
