Recently, there has been tension in the Strait of Hormuz, which is a very important sea route for oil and gas transport. Because of conflict in the region involving Iran and other countries, many ships were not allowed to pass freely. This created problems for countries like India that depend on imports of LPG (cooking gas).

In March 2026, Iran allowed a few Indian LPG ships to pass through the strait as a special case. Ships like Nanda Devi and Shivalik were able to safely reach India carrying large amounts of LPG. However, many other ships were still delayed or stuck, which raised concerns about gas supply and prices in India.

The Strait of Hormuz is extremely important because a large portion of the world’s oil and gas passes through it. If there is any disruption, it can affect global energy supply and prices very quickly. That is why even a small delay in ship movement becomes a big issue.

LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is transported in a special way. First, it is produced in oil refineries or natural gas plants. Then it is cooled and compressed to turn it into liquid form. This makes it much easier to store and transport because it takes up much less space.

After that, LPG is loaded onto large ships called gas carriers. These ships have strong tanks that can safely store gas under pressure or at low temperatures. The ships travel across seas and oceans to reach importing countries like India.

When the ships arrive at ports, the LPG is unloaded through pipelines and stored in large tanks. From there, it is sent to bottling plants where it is filled into cylinders. These cylinders are then distributed to homes and businesses for cooking and other uses.
