Well Control - Dynamic Volumetric Method

Dynamic Volumetric Method - A Well Control Method applied on Floating Drilling Units (Drill Ship and Semi-Sumersible Platform).

This method is used to control a kick of gas on a well without drill string or with the drill string out of the bottom or when is not possible circulation through of the drill string.

The method consists in circulating the original drilling fluid through the kill line with the return via choke line, in a closed system with control of the gain volume in the tank, while the gas expands and migrates in the well.

Like other methods, the principle of this method is to expel the gas keeping the bottom hole pressure (BHP) constant.

During this circulation, the increase in volume in the tank caused by the expansion of the gas and the decrease of the mud volume in the well, must be monitored and also the pump pressure and the choke pressure.
