After Rafale, Why India May Buy SAAB Gripen E Single-Engine Fighters From Sweden

Swedish group SAAB is making a bold pitch to sell its Gripen fighters to India at just half the price of Rafale jets. SAAB’s Gripen jets are one of the eight fighter jets that are competing for a tender through India’s MRFA programme. According to reports, the Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) programme will supply 114 jets to IAF. SAAB also said that it expects India to release a global tender for the fighter jets by the first half of 2022. SAAB is pitching its single-engine aircraft as a dramatically cheaper solution for the same role played by the Rafale.
