GOD Parity - The End of Utilities using Centralized Generation
Solar PV costs have dropped by a factor of 154X since 1970 and continue to go down. Rooftop solar costs are already below 'Grid Parity' in hundreds of markets around the world. As solar costs continue to drop, they will soon fall below the cost of transmission and distribution. At that point, even if centralized generation can generate at a cost of zero (which is impossible) they will not be able to compete with rooftop solar. The whole business model of the centralized, conventional generation utility falls apart.
At that point, utilities and centralized generation don't have a prayer!
