Hello and welcome to our channel. Today we're going to be discussing a truly incredible story of a cold case that was finally solved after 38 years.

On October 21, 1980, 29-year-old Michael Lee, an ironworker from Indiana, was visiting Arizona when he was found shot in the head. Despite collecting evidence, including cigarette butts, the police were unable to make any progress in identifying the perpetrators.

But in June of 2018, the Yavapai Sheriff's Office reopened the case and sent the cigarette butts out for DNA testing. The results led them to David Ellsworth Widmer, who, along with an accomplice, Rocky Crabtree, had planned to rob Lee but shot him when they couldn't find his money. Both Widmer and Crabtree had extensive criminal backgrounds.

Unfortunately, both suspects had passed away by the time this evidence came to light, but it still brought some closure to Lee's family, who had been searching for answers for almost four decades.

This just goes to show the power of DNA technology and how it can bring justice to even the most longstanding cold cases.
