Making New Meaning: The History of Collage

This DIY Program introduces students to the history of collage as well as two
different ways that artists have approached making collages throughout the ages. The
program provides historical information on collage since the medium’s creation in the
2nd century, focusing primarily on collage artists who worked during the 20th century. It
also covers how images and objects gain new meanings when they are included in a
collage. A variety of fun and informative collage-based projects and activities reinforce
newly-acquired knowledge.
