Why PvP and co-op are important in gacha games
The more I worked on this short the more I confused myself, which is why there's so much added text. I want to say a bit more, but because nobody reads descriptions I think I'll just pin this next part as a comment instead.
I think this short is pretty stupid because it's just me slowly realizing during the course of making it that indeed, the only reason left why people pull in the new era of gacha games is because they like the character. Because let's be real, though the big gacha games (Genshin, Star Rail, WuWa) have powercreep and co-op, I doubt anyone's main reason for pulling is that they can't clear endgame without that character or because they want to show it off in multiplayer. We only pull because we like the characters, that goes for me too. And while the act of spending money to become stronger or look cooler in a multiplayer game feels normal to me, spending money on a (mostly) single player game just seems alien. I don't know why. Maybe I'm getting old.
So yeah, this short is dumb. But no way I'm going to not post something I spent time working on, so here it is. Maybe with this one the impossible will happen and there will be a proper discussion on the comment section. Because I'm genuinely curious about what you think about this. I think we can all agree that microtransactions in a single player game that's not live service are stupid. And that microtransactions in any MMORPG make sense. But where you draw the line in between those two extremes?
