2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Tarja Halonen, President of Finland:
"It is particularly important to strengthen the status of human rights issues within the United Nations. Our decision to set up a human rights council is an excellent. But all the modalities need to be resolved as a matter of urgency. And, for the real progress, we must ensure that enough women will participate in the work of these new bodies."

5. SOUNDBITE: (English) General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan President :
"Our nations must not remain trapped by hate and history in a cycle of confrontation and conflict. For this to happen, it is essential to find a just solution of the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir acceptable to Pakistan, India and, above all, to the people of Kashmir."
6. Zimbabwe President Mugabe walking to podium
7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe:
"We have witnessed instances where the sovereignty and territorial integrity of small and weak countries have been violated by the mighty and powerful in defiance of agreed rules of procedure and provisions of the United Nations charter. Even on the basis of contrived lies, lies told in order to create a basis for aggression, and we have seen that aggression occur, even in the context of the so-called coalition. A coalition to defy international law becomes an aggressor coalition. It becomes, indeed, a coalition of evil."
8. South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun walking to podium
9. SOUNDBITE: (Korean) Roh Moo-hyun, South Korean President:
"It is my hope that northeast Asia will see the realisation of relations akin to those we see in Europe. For this will open an entirely new chapter in the history of northeast Asia, which in turn will contribute to global peace and prosperity."

STORYLINE:

Speeches in the United Nations General Assembly hall continued as more than 150 presidents, prime ministers and kings gathered in New York on Wednesday.

Finnish President Tarja Halonen urged the world body to press forward with the creation of a new human rights body, and to ensure the equal participation of women on that and other new UN organisations.

Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf again called for a solution to the problem of Kashmir that will be acceptable to all the parties involved, Pakistan, India and the people of the disputed territory.

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe lashed out at the United States and its allies in what he called the "so-called coalition" fighting in Iraq, calling it a "coalition of evil."

And South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun called for northeast Asian nations to put aside centuries of competition and conflict and strive for relations similar to those between members of the European Union.
