Praising the Artemisias

Artemisias are the Herb of the Year for 2014. Conrad Richter, President of Richters Herbs, presents a slide show on on the many and diverse varieties that are used for cooking, drinks, aroma, medicine and for the landscape. Included are many of the popular varieties as well as some of the hard to find varieties that you can grow in your garden. Learn how French tarragon, an artemisia, was once a mutant plant; how you can't make a martini or a manhattan without artemisia; how artemisias are the last line of defence against malaria; and how the sagebrushes, also artemisias, are used by native Americans for purification rituals. This video is an adaptation of a slide presentation given by Conrad Richter at the Toronto Herb Society's annual general meeting in Toronto on January 21, 2014.
