Move over Wheaties, in Southeast Asia a hot bowl of steaming noodles is the breakfast of choice for champions. The hotter, the spicier, the better is what Thai locals will tell you.

And it doesn't get better than ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ Kuay Teow Ruea a popular style of noodles served in small bowls. Customers typically fill up with at least 3 to 4 bowls. So it's common to see a table stacked with empty noodle bowls.

Ayutthaya Boat Noodle is a restaurant we eat 2 to 3 times a week. It's a bit of a way out from my wife's business. But they serve it up so good we don't mind making the detour.

This particular boat noodle restaurant is out of the way for most tourists. It is a franchise with several outlets but all are a little far from areas where tourists stay in.

But just keep an eye out for a shop with a long tail boat and large vats of steaming soup. Then you know you've hit pay dirt and rewarded with an amazing bowl of Thai noodles with beef or pork.
