Foreign Relations Bill is ‘just the beginning’ of much needed action
Former speaker of the house Bronwyn Bishop says Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s move to legislate the Foreign Relations Bill is just the beginning of much needed action from the government.
Next week the Morrison government will introduce legislation to parliament seeking the power to dispose of agreements with foreign powers which are seen to be against Australia’s national interests.
The plan would cover agreements made by all federal, state and local governments, and universities.
“The fact of the matter is that he (Daniel Andrews) and his ilk have been going across to China and giving more importance to what they want than to what people want in Australia,” Ms Bishop told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“This legislation is just the beginning … I want action and I want to see it happening.
“The sooner we see that legislation in and the sooner we’re seeing action taken under that legislation the better.”
