How to make a magnetic pin cushion

A magnetic pin cushion can be a total star in your sewing room if you've ever been unfortunate enough to step on a pin. But commercial magnetic pin cushions like Grabbit (awesome!) and the Dritz magnetic pin cushion are pretty darn boring despite being crazy functional.

So here's how you can make your own magnetic pin cushion that's as pretty as it is useful. Bonus: I'm showing you how to take the commercial magnetic pin tray or pin bowl you might have and make it cuter without losing all that pin sucking power. Either way you'll end up with a pin holder that will do its job without being a snore.
