Train Sim World - Great Western Express - Three Services Chained (1L62, 2G22, 4V38)

This was an interesting experiment and for the most part it worked.

For me, one of the main benefits of Service Mode is not just the wide range of services you can do - but that you can go from one thing to another as you wish, but doing so without long waits or it being unpredictable does require a little planning.

I started by looking through the timetable - my goal was to start in Reading with an HST, drive to London, then get a 166 to Acton and finally take a Class 66 to Reading from Acton yard.

I found a sequence by following the timetable and checking end times with start times and looking for some that were reasonably close but not too close (to allow for any delays that may occur).

Having found the services that looked interesting, I then started each one directly to verify which platforms they were all on and noted it all down.

My plan therefore, ended up as this:

1. Spawn on foot 15:00 reading, walk to Platform 11 and await arrival of HST.
2. Drive 1L62 Reading to London HST
3. Ride 2G22 London Platform 11 to Acton, Class 166 as a passenger
4. Walk from Acton Main Line to the yard and await arrival of Class 66 on containers.
5. Drive 4V38 Acton to Reading Class 166.

As you can see from this video - it basically all worked perfectly!

What kind of chains can you come up with? Are there some times you can run a 166 or HST back and forth a few times without having to wait too long? What about switching service type midway along the route or throwing in some 66's? How long can you make your chain last?

This is where you can get a bit creative, use the services that are in the world to create your drivers diagram for your shift, then do it and see how it goes.
