Spice Up Your Chord Progressions With Secondary Dominants and II-V-I's

Understanding harmony is an essential part of being a well rounded musician. Knowing how chords function will help with you with your composing as well as improvising. In this lesson I'll talk about some of the basic fundamentals of harmony, as well as some of the harmonic devices I use to spice ordinary chord progressions. We'll get into:

Basic Diatonic Harmony
Secondary Dominants
II-V-I's
Altered Upper Extensions

I'll demonstrate how we can take a simple chord progression (C-Amin-F-G) and, using different harmonic concepts, turn it into something more complex. I'll also demonstrate my approach to soloing over the different iterations of the chord progression.

The notation and tablature for the solo at the beginning, as well as all the tabs throughout the video and the the backing track are available on my Patreon Page: https://www.patreon.com/jackruch
