A Journey Into Steampunk

In this episode we explore a different vintage, dialling the time machine back – or is it forward? – to visit the Steampunk NZ festival, where we meet steampunk designer Michelle Webb, who suffered a life changing accident 6 years ago. Steampunk began as a literary genre and expanded into an aesthetic, art, performance and musical movement. Described as Victorian sci fi, or a world where steam technology and Victorian dress meet in the far future – usually very much without the stifling gender roles, thankfully - steampunk has been embraced by people around the globe, with the best of steampunk being heavy on DIY wearable art, recycling, reusing and repurposing objects to be made into imaginative gadgets, accessories, art installations and more.
