The Opel Rocks, a unique and compact electric vehicle, has received a mild refresh for 2025, bringing subtle yet significant updates. The model, which has captured attention for its quirky design and practicality, is now updated with some cosmetic changes and the introduction of two new trims – the Edition and the GS. These updates further establish the Opel Rocks as a distinctive version of the Citroen Ami, which itself has been revamped for the new year, but Opel is keeping things a bit more understated.

Originally introduced in 2021 as the Rocks-e, and later rebranded as the Rocks Electric, this small EV has always been a standout in the quadricycle category. It’s part of a trio of vehicles from Stellantis, alongside the Citroen Ami and Fiat Topolino, all designed to cater to a growing market of urban commuters looking for affordable, eco-friendly transportation. The Opel Rocks, like its siblings, offers something unique— it can be driven by teenagers as young as 15 in some countries, offering an exciting entry into the world of electric driving for young enthusiasts.

While Opel’s rival Citroen has undergone a full retro-inspired facelift for its 2025 model, Opel has opted to stick with the original design for the Rocks. And this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it’s a smart move, as it allows the Opel Rocks to maintain its signature look while adding some fresh touches. The 2025 update mainly brings subtle exterior changes, with the introduction of the black Opel Vizor grille and a sleek light grey body. The two-seater cabin is simple but functional, with features like manual pull-up side windows and a panoramic roof, allowing drivers to enjoy the open air while driving.

As for performance, there are no major changes under the hood. The Opel Rocks retains its 8 hp electric motor, paired with a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This powertrain offers a driving range of up to 75 kilometers (47 miles) on a single charge, making it perfect for short urban commutes. The top speed remains limited to 45 km/h, ensuring it stays within the regulations for heavy quadricycles in various European markets. Though it may not be a speedster, the Rocks is a functional and environmentally friendly choice for city dwellers.

Opel has also introduced two new trims, the Rocks Edition and the Rocks GS. While details on these trims remain scarce, we can expect the Edition trim to offer a more basic version of the Rocks with essential features, while the GS trim could add a sportier appearance or other performance-focused enhancements. The GS badge is typically reserved for Opel’s sportier models, so it will be interesting to see if Opel brings any exciting new features to this trim.

The updated Opel Rocks is expected to launch in Europe soon, providing an affordable and fun-to-drive electric vehicle option for urban residents. With its mix of retro charm and modern updates, the Opel Rocks remains a standout in the growing market for compact, sustainable vehicles.
