Syrian Orthodox Christian Mass in Malayalam language (Atlanta, GA) - intercessory prayer

Saturday, July 19, 2025. Holy Mass celebrated at Syrian Orthodox conference in Atlanta for Indian families. The language of the liturgy is Malayalam which is language spoken in Kerala which is in one of the southern regions of the Indian subcontinent. The theme of the conference is: Reconciliation and Healing. It is for families and youth.

Roman Catholics will feel at home with the traditional gems of the liturgy such as priests facing altar. And healthy dose of Frankincense. Regarding receiving Holy Communion as Roman Catholic, be sure to respect that there are rules about this and will need to check with your bishop.

What may appear novel is shoes not being worn during worship at least for congregants. Perhaps this primarily has to do with Asian customs. Or perhaps has to do with all being connected in sharing of sacred ground. “remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is (אַדְמַת־קֹדֶשׁ) holy ground .” (Ex 3:5).
