"Sweet City Woman" is a 1971 song by, rock band The Stampeders, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, appearing on their debut album Against the Grain (retitled Sweet City Woman in the US) composed by Rich Dodson. It features a banjo as a primary instrument, which is also mentioned in the lyrics: "The banjo and me, we got a feel for singing." The single spent four weeks as a number 1 hit in Canada, and reached number 8 in the US. It also climbed to number 1 on the Canadian country music and adult contemporary charts. The song was also marketed in Canada by Quality Records with instrumental and French lyric versions. In 1971 The Stampeders won Juno Awards in the categories of Best Group, Best Single, Best Producer and Best Composer for their platinum single. Alfredo Cabrera: bass, voice, replaced by Héctor Terán. Nelson Bautista: cello, voice, retired due to work issues shortly after the successes began. They debuted in 1971 performing at national festivals in Venezuela, and the following year they included Nelson Bautista. In 1972 they made their debut with the album: "Solo Otra Vez", an album of great acceptance by the public that includes the song "Sweet City Woman". In 1978 they put an end to the group. Later, Douglas Herrera, main founder, regrouped Los Tres Tristes Tigres as a musical organization, with Hector Teràn, internet radio producer and Ricardo Omaña Cartaya, broadcaster, journalist and dubbing actor.
