The Dory

"The Dory" is a true story about the model dory my uncle James Griffin made for me when I was a young lad, carving each plank and rib by hand with a pen knife. James grew up in Argentia, Newfoundland, along with my mother, Agatha. Throughout my life I have carried that boat with me and so it suffered the abuse of more than 50 years of moving and life. In 2022, about five years after the song was created, I began the restoration of the model, a true work of the heart. As I worked on the boat, I was able to see and feel each step in its creation; developing a deep connection, appreciation, and respect for my uncle. This video documents that process. Since its restoration, it resides in a place of honor in my home. I hope you enjoy the song and my restoration journey as much as I have.
