Come join us and let's fly from Doha to our home city of San Francisco aboard Qatar's Airbus A350-1000!
Overall Impression:
One of Qatar Airways'newest routes is from Doha to San Francisco. Qatar typically flies this route with an Airbus A350-900 outfitted with the QSuite Business Class product, but this time we were lucky to be on a newer A350-1000 aircraft.
As usual the QSuite is an excellent business class product, and we always look forward to flying it.
Business Class on Qatar's Airbus A350-1000 is laid out in a 1-2-1 configuration. Some seats face forward, while others are rear facing. The center seats can be opened-up so that a family or friends of 4, can still see each other and converse during the flight.
I was seated in 7K, a rear facing window seat on the starboard side of the plane, while my companion was in 9A, a rear facing window seat.
What I liked:
The Al Mourjan Lounge in Doha - The Al Mourjan lounge has gone through a lot of changes since the pandemic began. Most notable is the food offering. They now offer an excellent la carte dining service in addition to the now "assisted" buffet spread in the dining room.
The seats were very comfortable. I was initially concerned that because of the sliding door, the QSuite might feel tight and claustrophobic, but this was not the case. The seat felt spacious and very private.
The food was also delicious. The catering was topnotch all the food and beverages we ordered throughout the flight tasted fresh, beautifully presented, and scrumptious!
Onboard amenities were also excellent. A protective kit including mask, latex gloves, and hand sanitizer were offered to all business class passengers in addition to the Bric's amenity kit, and pajamas. The crew offered turndown service, with a thick duvet, full-size pillowm and mattress pads were placed on the seat when you're ready to wind down and get some sleep. The lavatories were stocked with toothbrushes, shaving kits, and bottles of moisturizers and facial mist. They were also regularly cleaned by the crew.
It was OK:
I'm really nitpicking here, but The Bric's amenity kit is just OK, but I actually prefer the old Giorgio Armani soft pouches from before. The White Company Pajamas/slippers provided was also a nice touch, but their old business class pajamas and slippers were of better quality in my opinion.
What I didn't like:
The service was just OK on this flight, but not as good as previous flights. Qatar Airways offers a dine-on-demand concept in business class, where you can order anything from the menu at any time during the flight. Our flight attendant You Lee was friendly, proactive, and efficient. However, the other flight attendant (who will remain nameless) working our aisle was abrupt, curt, and boderline rude. She literally just told me to get up so she could collect the mattress pad before landing.
Bottom Line:
Qatar Airways QSuite is a superb the business class product, and consistently the best business class product we've flown. The seats, service, amenities, and food rivals even some of the best First Class products available. Other than the alternate flight attendant, we still had a great flight and arrived home in comfort.
