Echocardiography, or an echo is simply an ultrasound of the heart. But sometimes we are unable to see the heart as well as we would like. This can be important in order to rule out or alternatively, diagnose certain conditions that may impact patient care like LV apical thrombus (clot at the tip of the heart), regional, almost never melodies, or cardiomyopathies (abnormalities of the heart muscle) like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
