See my channel description for important details about how I create my content.
As we count down to the historic Artemis II launch date in just a few weeks, this high-fidelity VFX simulation explores a terrifying "What If" scenario: A massive lunar impact occurring during the crewed orbit.
Experience the Artemis 2 mission through the window of the NASA Orion spacecraft as it passes over the lunar surface. While the real mission aims to bring humans back to the Moon for the first time in over 50 years, this video visualizes the dangers of the lunar environment.
Artemis II: Returning Humans to the Moon (The 2026 Mission)
The last time NASA sent astronauts to the lunar surface was in 1972, when Apollo 17 carried the last men to walk on the moon in the last century. Now, 53 years later, we are witnessing the dawn of a new era with the Artemis program. Following the incredible success of Artemis I—which launched on November 16, 2022, and saw the uncrewed Orion spacecraft travel 1.4 million miles—we are now on the verge of the first crewed flight.
The Artemis II Crew: Pioneers of the New Space Age The four brave astronauts leading this mission have undergone years of rigorous NASA training:
Commander Reid Wiseman: Leading the first crewed lunar flyby since 1972.
Pilot Victor Glover: Steering the Orion spacecraft through the deep space environment.
Mission Specialist Christina Koch: Adding another historic milestone to her record-breaking career.
Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen (CSA): Representing the international partnership of the Artemis Accords.
The 10-Day Mission Architecture Launching from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Artemis II flight path will cover approximately 685,000 miles (~1.1 million km). The crew will utilize the Orion Mission Simulator to rehearse every phase, from T-minus zero to the high-speed re-entry and splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
The Science of the Lunar Impact: A Simulation Breakdown
In this video, we visualize a lunar crash—a catastrophic asteroid impact on the moon’s surface. This simulation uses advanced After Effects 3D modeling and VFX to depict what an asteroid impact would look like from the perspective of the Orion capsule.
Why January 2026 is the Year of the Moon As NASA Artemis stated on December 31, 2025: "This is the year we will fly around the Moon with humans." With the Artemis II launch date set for February 2026, the global interest in space exploration, SLS rocket technology, and lunar geology is at an all-time high.

00:32 – Shockwave Propagation & Surface Ejecta
00:38 – Orion Stability Check & Post-Impact Debris
All footage is 100% original authentic and self-produced. No stock and no reused content. Everything is filmed, edited and uploaded manually. Some scenes feature CGI or AI to support the - too impossible to be real - theme. Everything is crafted intentionally to blur the line between real and surreal. See channel description for full production details.
