Ever heard of a Royal warrant? Well, if you've been to the UK you might have seen one without even knowing it. If you want to find out what the Queen eats, drinks, wears and drives, they I have the answer for you.

If you’ve ever been to the UK, or if you live in the UK, you might have seen products with this symbol on it. Like here, and here, and here. But it’s only on some products, so what is it? And why is it on certain products?

First, let’s find out what is is. This is the royal coat of arms and to quote the royal family’s website “The function of the Royal coat of arms is to identify the person who is Head of State. In respect of the United Kingdom, the Royal arms are borne only by the Sovereign. The arms are used in the administration and government of the country, appearing on coins, in churches and on public buildings. They also appear on the products and goods of Royal warrant holders.”

So, what is a royal warrant? And how does a product or good become a holder? A Royal Warrant of Appointment is a mark of recognition of those who have supplied goods or services to the Households of HM The Queen or HRH The Prince of Wales for at least five years, and who have an ongoing trading arrangement.

Basically, it’s if the Queen, or Prince Charles have been using the product for at least five years. So, if you’re wondering what the Queen eats drinks wears drives basically anything she might use.. you can find out. And some are obvious and expected, others are surprising. Starting with some more obvious ones:

Bentley Motors has a royal warrant as Motor Car Manufacturers.
Samsung. Supplier of Television and Audio Visual Products.
Burberry supplier of Weatherproofers for the queen.
Cadburry supplier of Cocoa & Chocolate Manufacturers.
Twinnnigns for tea and coffee.
Coca Cola Suppliers of Soft Drinks.

And speaking of drinks, let’s talk about alcohol. The queen has 4 scotch whiskey. 1 brewery. 6 wine and spirits, 1 gin, and 8 suppliers of Champagne (Pol Roger et Cie) She may be in her 90s but the Queen knows how to party.

Moving on to the more obscure ones. Let’s give a shout out to Event-A-Loo. Supplier of Executive Toilet Hire. And while, we’re on the topic, Penhaligon’s Manufacturers of Toilet Requisites. Shout out to Stanely Gibbons for their hep as Phil..phif… googles, stamp collecting?

Today there are around 800 royal warrant holders. Some belonging to individual craftspeople and some to global multi-national corporations.

So next time you’re sipping on some Twinnings tea, or eating a Cadbury’s chocolate bar, or even using a Event-A-Loo toilet, you can really feel like a King and or Queen.
