For those of you who don’t know, the Insta360 ONE R is an action camera that is a direct competitor to the GoPro Hero 9 black. What makes it unique is its modularity and ability to use different lenses and sensors depending on the situation. Insta 360 calls these mods.

In this video, we take a close look at the camera settings and how to set it up for maximum quality in photo, video, and time-lapse modes.

Overall, the biggest thing you can do for your video quality out of the ONE R is to ensure you are using the correct Frame Rate and Resolution. The ONE R is capable of shooting 5.3K video. For non-action footage, this can be a great way to give yourself a little real-estate to punch-in or crop in post assuming you are planning on exporting a 4K or 1080p file.

The problem with 5.3K is that it can only shoot up to 30fps which is just too slow to really use to capture action footage. Instead, consider using 4K 60fps or 1080p 120fps depending on how much slow motion you plan on doing!

This is a fantastic camera for anyone looking for something small and portable that also packs the quality of a much larger camera and the capabilities of both a 360 and traditional action camera.
