2001 Steel City Chevy Trucks AMA Motocross Championship (Final Round)

This is the 12th and final round of the 2001 Chevy Trucks AMA Motocross Championship from Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA. This is the last of only 5 Nationals from 2001 that I have.

Returning 250cc contenders like Kevin Windham, Mike LaRocco, Sebastien Tortelli, Ezra Lusk, 250cc rookie Stephane Roncada, John Dowd, David Vuillemin, Tim Ferry, Ryan Hughes, and defending champ Ricky Carmichael battle it out for the 2001 Chevy Trucks 250cc AMA Motocross Championship. This season marks Ryan Hughes' first season back in the U.S. after 2 years in Europe, and riding the new CRF450R Honda 4-stroke. Mike LaRocco makes a switch to the new Honda 450cc 4-stroke for the final 3 rounds. After being sidelined since Washougal with a concussion and tweaking a shoulder, Ryan Hughes tries to make an appearance for the final round in tune for the 2001 MX des Nations, but another crash and concussion in practice forces him to give up his MXDN spot to Kevin Windham, only to have Team USA withdraw due to 9/11. As a result, Hughes would later announce his retirement following the numerous injuries and concussions, only to make a comeback for the 2003 125cc Motocross Championship. 2-time 125cc Motocross champ Steve Lamson rides a 250cc for the final round of the 2001 season. The ESPN2 crew gets a view of Tim Ferry's Florida home which he later sells some years later.

Returning 125cc contenders like Brock Sellards, Nick Wey, 125cc rookie Grant Langston, Nathan Ramsey, Kelly Smith, 125cc West SX champ Ernesto Fonseca, David Pingree, former 250cc riders Damon Huffman and Larry Ward, 2-time 125cc champ Steve Lamson, Greg Schnell, Rodrig Thain, Pro Circuit Kawasaki vets Mike Brown and Tallon Vohland, and defending champ (and 125cc East SX champ) Travis Pastrana battle it out for the 2001 Chevy Trucks 125cc AMA Motocross Championship. 3-time 125cc champ (and current 250cc MX champion) Ricky Carmichael makes his well-known cameo appearance aboard a Pro Circuit Kawasaki KX125 to break the tie with Mark Barnett for all-time 125cc Motocross career wins at 25. This race is well known for Grant Langston's rear wheel breaking with a few laps to go and giving the title to Mike Brown, but Grant famously went up to congratulate Mike on his first championship in America after 3 of 4 seasons in Europe.

Enjoy.
