MUSIC FOR CONSERVATION The making of the "GUADALUPE ISLAND SONG"

Throughout the Grupo de Ecología y Conservación de Islas (GECI) diverse projects in the Mexican islands, environmental education is a key axis. We offer art workshops in various islands communities, through which children develop their imagination and sensitivity and connect creatively with the extraordinary and unique biodiversity of their islands. In the music workshops, children learn to analyze sounds, musical notes and to relate sounds from nature with musical instruments. The goal is to use music as an essential tool that can lead us to generate changes in the way we perceive the environment surrounding us.
For GECI, art is both a means of creative expression and a means of learning, since music, painting or poetry, among others, allows us to build emotional bridges to nature.
