Over the past 20 years, I’d say slap bass has really fallen out of favour when actually gigging (I compare it with something like sweep picking for a guitarist)
So, my question would be…
What are the best ways to integrate slap playing into modern bass performance? How do we tastefully add slap parts into modern pop, rock, funk etc?

When I was at BIT (Musicians Institute) over 20 years ago, if you slapped a part that wasn’t a slap part on the record, they basically stopped the performance and told you to get off the stage.
I know music school isn’t real life but it’s really made me reluctant to play much slap style.
