Blues Guitar Lesson - Play Into the Chord Changes

Most players end their licks before the next chord hits… but the best guitarists play into the chord change. In this blues lesson, I show you how to start a phrase over the I chord and let it flow over the bar line into the IV chord for smooth, pro-level phrasing.

Then I take it further using chromatic notes to create tension and an “outside” sound before resolving back into the progression. This is how you add sophistication, movement, and emotion to your solos.

▶️ Learn to play over the bar line
▶️ Target the chord change (I → IV)
▶️ Add chromatics for outside flavor

Unlock phrasing that actually follows the music — not the box shapes.
