Adak (/ˈeɪdæk/, Aleut: Adaax, Russian: Адак), formerly Adak Station, is a city located on Adak Island, in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. The population in the year 2020 is about 50 people. It is the westernmost municipality in the United States and the southernmost city in Alaska. The city is the former location of the Adak Army Base and Adak Naval Operating Base, NAVFAC Adak. During World War 2 there were over 100,000 troops stationed on Adak. During the Cold War, there were 6000 troops and their families. The base shut down in 1997.
