Flightline RC P-38 Lightning maiden flight
This was my maiden flight of a Flightline RC P-38 flown at Scobee Field - Katy, Texas. Edited down to a short & sweet clip. The plane got sideways after landing as I was applying too much down elevator trying to slow it down. Lesson learned: don't add down-elevator. :)
I acquired this second-hand from a buddy who acquired it from someone else. Never flown. Parts were missing (mainly screws) and a few external accessories (not needed). I read on the RC Groups thread that many owners recommended replacing the stock gear and upgrading to the higher 800 kV motors...so I did. After this first flight, I'm glad I did both of those upgrades.
There were some qwerks building/fixing this kit that were annoying and turned this ARF almost into a kit build. The plane would be easier to transport if Flightline RC could incorporate the wing panel linkage from E-Flite's 1.5m P-51 (secures wing, includes electronic connections). Unscrewing the wing panels and dealing with the tight mess of extensions is frustrating.
Someone asked me why I changed the rotation of the props (from stock). Actually, the full-scale P-38 rotates the props outward from the cockpit. She flew fine in this configuration.
Needs some weathering and nose art. Looking forward to taking it to some upcoming events.
