PANATA AT PANALANGIN

MAARAM: PAGTANGHAL SA KATUTUBONG KAALAMAN ends its initial season telecast with “Panata at Panalangin” a lyrical tribute to the devotional dance called the subli. Shot in Sitio Sapangan, Barangay Talumpok Silangan, Batangas City in 2018, the episode delves into the lives of a tightly knit community of Aglipayan Church devotees who perform the subli, a graceful yet playful devotional dance to the Santo Niño.

In April 2024, the creative team of Maaram went back to Barangay Talumpok Silangan. So much has changed, and quite a number of dancers have died during the pandemic. The rest of the dancers are preoccupied with thoughts about the afterlife. A couple of subli dancers relished the moment of remembrance by dancing to the beats of an improvised drum.
