Julien Nédélec, "La Lune appartient à toute le monde" (2020) | Jean-Kenta Gauthier
Julien Nédélec (b. 1982)
"La Lune appartient à tout le monde" [The Moon Belongs To Everyone] (2020)
4 spiral-bound books, 227 sheets each, 29.7 x 23 cm each, stamp
This work was conceived from an immense photograph of the moon, taken in 2011 by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter of NASA. Nédélec reorganized this image into 908 fragments housed in four spiral-bound books. While some are toying with offering certificates of ownership of the moon for sale, the visitors here are invited to choose and appropriate a piece of the moon for themselves by tearing out the desired page and adding the stamp that states: “The Moon belongs to everyone ”.

in FREE LUNCH
Daniel Blaufuks / Coco Capitán / Raphaël Dallaporta / Mishka Henner / David Horvitz / Alfredo Jaar / Julien Nédélec
December 5, 2020 - extended until march 27, 2021
at Jean-Kenta Gauthier / Vaugirard
4, rue de la Procession 75015 Paris
According to Milton Friedman, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. In other words, a free meal is an illusion as the recipient always ends up paying a price.
FREE LUNCH, originally scheduled for the gallery's booth at Paris Photo 2020, presents a collection of works which all question the generation, circulation and politics of images today, and for which being free of charge, being given, is a very consequence of their nature. FREE LUNCH is an exhibition of works that are entirely offered to the visitors, for free.
With the precious support of Simon Baker, Emmanuelle de l’Écotais, Brice Garçon, David Knaus, Hailey Widrig, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Paris, Photo Days and \Else.
