Wooden Spar Found at Garage Sale Is Part of Sunken USS Maine
A wooden piece found at a garage sale has turned out to be part of the USS Maine. The ship blew up in 1898 and the incident contributed to the beginning of the Spanish-American War. The spar had been given to the Pascack Historical Society in Park Ridge, New Jersey, by Stephen McDonald, who found it at the sale. One day, volunteer Chris Kersting decided to confirm its authenticity with the help of experts, the Navy and the Arlington National Cemetery. Inside Edition Digital has more.
