HD: 12/14/14 Sunday Railfanning with BNSF, UP, NS, IC, & CN

On Sunday my girlfriend and I did some railfanning. Our first stop was New Baden, IL. at the East End Switch. We heard the NS dispatcher tell NS 112 to take the siding at New Baden to meet NS 29N. The sidings along the old Southern are SS which stands for Spring Switch instead of controlled by a dispatcher. You'll see the conductor on NS 112 throw the switch and lock it. NS 29N pulls up to the East End Switch at New Baden so the conductor can line it back up in place. I did talk to the engineer while the conductor was lining up the switch. After lining up the switch, the conductor climbs on board NS 29N so they can get moving. NS 29N was going to meet NS 224 at Shattuc siding. Soon as NS 29N cleared East New Baden, Meredith and I drove out to milepost 55 which is in Hoffman, IL. NS 224 was already at Shattuc and already lined the switch for NS 29N to take the siding. After NS 29N cleared the main at Shattuc, NS 224 was ready to take off like a rocket. About 10 minutes sitting at milepost 55, I can see NS 224 coming around the curve approaching milepost 56. Soon as NS 224 passed, we went to Centralia, IL to see what we can catch and we caught two Northbound CN trains. Around 3:45pm we started to head back to Shiloh and take Highway 161 that followed the Old Southern. When we got to Shiloh, NS 223 was approaching Green Mount Road at 30mph because the detector in Belleville, IL didn't give them a reading. NS 111 and NS 285 were right behind NS 223. NS 285 was our last train of the day. Here are the trains we caught.
