This piece is No. 3 from Franz Liszt’s Études d’exécution transcendante
d’après Paganini, S.140, a set of virtuosic piano études inspired by
themes from Paganini’s violin works.

No. 3 is built around a bright, dance-like theme that Liszt reshapes into
a brilliant keyboard study. The music features fast repeated notes, light
articulation, and quick shifts across the keyboard, demanding precise control
and evenness of touch from the performer.

Throughout the étude, Liszt expands the original melodic material with
ornamented textures and sparkling passagework, turning violin-style virtuosity
into idiomatic piano writing. The character is energetic and playful, with a
clear rhythmic pulse and transparent structure despite the technical demands.

Like the other études in S.140, this work combines technical training with
concert-level brilliance, making it both a study piece and a performance work.
