RUMINATIONS: The first Comic Book Quickies episode! The response to the Comic Book Advertisements episode was a bit lukewarm, at least in terms of the ads that weren’t comic-related. Making fun of a printed game ad is one thing, but shorter comics are ridiculous and silly and make for some decent jokes. And thus the Comic Book Quickies were created, spotlighting shorter comics and, of course, Hostess Fruit Pie ads. Apparently the Spider-Man of the Hostess Fruit Pies universe was killed in the event comic Spiderverse. Good for a gag, but seems a little meanspirited. By that same token, though, Marvel Zombies had a parody of them that I thought was funny, but whatever.

As many have pointed out before, the Jedi teachings are really supposed to be a reflection of Buddhist teachings about not having earthly connections or the like, although even the Jedi seemed to realize this whole thing was in error since apparently in the Expanded Universe, one of Luke’s first decrees to the new Jedi Order was to lift the whole love ban thing. Considering he is the product of a forbidden union… well, there you go. Still, regardless of how you feel about that or the actual philosophical reason why they can’t fall in love, I think we can all agree that “Jedi get so horny they might blow up the planet” is a pretty stupid reason and this comic is pretty stupid, too.
