Modra ceramics in Slovakia Part 2: How to avoid buying a fake.
How to find out whether the piece of Modra ceramics you're about to buy is authentic or fake.
This video is narrated in Slovak. Here's English translation:
[text: title at the beginning] What one should be careful about when buying Modra ceramics: TRADEMARK.
[my narration] Here's one warning.
If you happen to be buying this ceramics in Slovakia, be careful that there is this mark down at the bottom.
At the bottom of the cup or any piece that you're going to buy, there should be this mark "Slovak Folk Majolica Modra".
[text] This is how they explained it to us right at their workshop in Modra.
[narration - lady at the workshop speaking ] On each product that the craftsman makes and a painter paints, they put on their mark - it's the craftsman's (unique) mark. And then they put on our trademark - with this trademark you know that it's authentic Modra ceramics, because there are many private individuals around this area who imitate our products and sell as Modra ceramics. But they cannot use our trademark.
[my narration at the end] So be careful that they (the Modra pottery pieces) have this mark.
