In the Gallery: Remus Grecu – Night Rainbows (2021)
CAI Gallery is pleased to present Night Rainbows, a solo exhibition by the Romanian artist Remus Grecu. The exhibition presents nine paintings from 2013 up to now, marked by Grecu’s concept of Night Rainbows exploring the haunting beauty where darkness meets our creative subconscious.
“It’s a notion of what I consider being dark and yet full of life too. It’s about the monster’s humps growing inside claustrophobic rooms and floods the viewer’s imagination. I believe in mystery, subconscious power, nightmares and beautiful crimes. ‘Night Rainbows’ is the sum of all of this.”
Remus Grecu (born in 1976 in Bucharest, Romania, currently resides and works in Bucharest, Romania) is a contemporary painter internationally lauded for his distinctive visual language marked by vivid colours, surreal and dreamlike compositions. His paintings are on the one hand a visual catalyst of wonder, and on the other hand they create an array of questions. Conflicts that often cannot be solved or answered. Visual poetry drenched in mystery.
“I am not interest in representing the subject ‘per se’, as much as I want to veil it under a certain kind of haze and poetical whiff. After all, the subject is in the eye and mind of the viewer, the artist should deliver veiled subjects and mystery.”
Grecu studied at the University of Arts in Bucharest, before moving to London, Stockholm and now the painter is back in Bucharest. The Romanian artist has exhibited across the globe and participated in institutional and/or museum shows, such as the Romanian Culture Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, or the Staedel Art Museum in Frankfurt, Germany.
