This is what happened when an architect falls in love with treehouses as a child. Every branch and knot sparks imagination, and he must have had much fun building them.

** Rotterdam Half Day Trip & Evening Walk **
Start: Rotterdam Centraal Station - Exit the station and head south toward the city center (10 min walk).

1️⃣ Markthal - Walk along Binnenrotte to the famous Markthal (~10 min). Admire the ceiling, grab a snack, coffee, or early dinner.

2️⃣ Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen) - Just 2–3 min walk from Markthal. Take photos outside; if you want, visit the Show Cube Museum. Close at 5pm.

3️⃣ Erasmus Bridge - Walk 15 min along Oude Haven toward Erasmus Bridge. Evening sunset and skyline are perfect for photos.

Optional Short Detours - Harbor Walk: Continue along Maas River (~15 min) for lights and river views.

** Rotterdam Cube Houses – History **

Designed by architect Piet Blom in the late 1970s. His concept was: “living in an urban forest” — each house represents a tree, and together they form a forest. Each cube is tilted 45 degrees and placed on top of a hexagonal pillar. This creates super weird floor angles — nothing is straight! You can’t even lean furniture against most walls.

There are 38 actual homes, plus two “super-cubes” used for business or exhibitions. One of them is open to tourists, called the “Kijk-Kubus” (“Show Cube”) — you can pay € (student half price) to walk inside and feel dizzy. Floor space sounds big on paper (~100 m² / 1070 sq ft), but because of the angles, only about 70 m² is actually usable. So yes, you technically pay for walls you can’t even touch.

People really do live there — but residents reportedly say: “You have to be creative… and not too tall.”
