Sam Cooke - (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons

Broadcast on Steve Allen's Sunday night variety program on January 5, 1958. Judging from the program script, the writers intended Sam's performance to be more elaborate, but it was ultimately truncated. As to why - Steve Allen mentions earlier, "We have about a 98-minute program, and the question is, can we do it in 60 minutes?"

This was telecast in color, but circulates as a black-and-white kinescope. The color recording likely exists in NBC's archive, but was recorded in a short-lived, proprietary color format (lenticular color) that nobody knows how to reproduce today. The Library of Congress is reportedly experimenting with the process.
