It’s already been two years since the collapse of the South Champlain towers in Miami Florida. It was June 24, 2021 when 98 lives were taken at 1:22 in the morning. How could this happen in a country like America where everything is so heavily regulated?

The problem is, those regulations we rely on to protect us, have never extended to condos. Condos, unlike apartment buildings and commercial buildings, have been self-managed by the homeowners, uneducated and unknowing homeowners like you and I, since the first condos in 1960.

Nobody loves a ton of regulations, but now, with underfunded and unfunded reserves to care for issues that occur in aging buildings like the $15mm structural ones at Champlain Towers, we could be in trouble!
