"Murph" is a crossfit WOD (workout of the day).
It's typically done every Memorial Day in honor of Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy who sacrificed himself to call for support to save the lives of his team after they became surrounded. It was his favorite workout (originally called "Body Armor").
To complete it, you have to do:
- A 1 Mile Run
- 100 Pull Ups, 200 Push Ups, 300 Squats (in any order)
- Another 1 Mile Run
- For Time
- 20lb. vest (optional)
Since I planned on doing it for 30 days in a row, I opted to make it a bodyweight/calisthenics workout.
Now if you've done a Murph before, you can probably imagine how the month went.
And if you haven't-- I encourage you to try one, and then imagine feeling that pain/exhaustion 29 more times...
All the clips in this video are from the end of each murph when I was at peak exhaustion/fatigue/pain and form started giving out but i was pushing to keep intensity high. You can guess how much it sucked.
To be honest, if I hadn't publicly committed to documenting every day of the 30 Days of Murph on my Instagram @cjpstott, I'm not sure I would have finished.
Fortunately I followed through with my challenge and learned more than I expected along the way: things I'd like to talk more with you about in the future.
When?
I'll be posting more frequently on my instagram about topics like what I learned from this challenge giving you access to my personal thoughts.
Plus, you'll be able to see my daily updates for this and other challenges there and get to know me for REAL over time aside from this one tiny aspect.
