Backpacking - Colorado's San Isabel National Forest - Lakes of the Clouds

Join me for a fun, fall hike through the golden aspens as I make my way up to Lakes of the Clouds, just west of the town of Westcliffe, CO.
For this trail, we use the Rainbow trail then connect up to the Swift Creek trail that takes up to the lakes. Once we arrive, we make a heartbreaking discovery before setting up camp, high above the lakes.
On day 2, we go off-trail entirely and make our way up to Spread Eagle Peak, then come back down all the way to the lowest lake to make camp for night 2.
Day 3 begins with another surprise before we pack up and head back down to rejoin the family who was camped at the trailhead waiting for me.
This was a gorgeous fall hike from September 2018 and it took me through the full range of emotions, from heartbreak to amazement and extreme joy, this one had it all.
