Not only is the Douro valley the oldest wine-growing region, it’s also considered the most beautiful. Since 1756, a legal demarcation has defined where the grapes for port wine can be grown. Here in northern Portugal, the harvested grapes are still trampled underfoot. So it’s perfect for our reporter Hendrik Welling to explore this region, and to taste some of the world’s best port wines.
