Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott reads from “Omeros” at the #internationalpoetryforum

An excerpt from Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott’s epic “Omeros” at the International Poetry Forum, 1992.

A longtime friend of the International Poetry Forum, Walcott visited Pittsburgh to read his poetry four times between 1972 and 1992. Walcott (alongside Carolyn Forché) received the Forum’s Charity Randall Citation in 1992, just a few months before the Saint Lucian poet was announced as winner of the Nobel Prize.

This epic poem, which echoes Homer, is often cited as one of the greatest works of 20th century poetry.
