Meteora Greece #meteora

Meteora is a famous locality located in northern Greece, on the north-western edge of the Thessaly plain, near the town of Kalambaka. It is an important center of the Orthodox Church, second only to Mount Athos, as well as a renowned tourist destination, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Of the twenty-four monasteries built with enormous sacrifices on top of spectacular sandstone cliffs, only six are currently still inhabited, partly recovered after years of abandonment.
