Phantom 2 Vision third party Range Extender / Repeater setup / Extend WiFi FPV Range
This video gives you information on why you would want to setup a 3rd party range extender to use with your Phantom 2 Vision. Also explaining some of the benefits, such as increased range over stock and so forth.
The basic steps you need to follow are as such.
1) Find out the SSID and MAC address of the Phantom 2 vision Camera by first connecting to your Phantom 2 Visions wifi. Open the DJI app, go to settings, then scroll down and click on Bindings. Write this info down.
Alternatively, the SSID of the Vision Camera is usually going to be FC200_XXXXXX the "X's" being the last 6 digits of the MAC address of the Cameras wifi router. a MAC address is several numbers separated by colons, for example 03:A2:53 etc. So if those were the last 6 digits of your MAC address the SSID if your Phantom 2 Vision Camera wifi router is likely FC200_03a253
2) Follow the manufacturers instructions to log on to your router. This will usually involve having to go to networking on your computer located under the Control Panel. Right Clicking your Local Area Network and choosing Properties. Changing the IP address to 192.168.1.xxx the "xxx's" can be anything from 1-254 as long as it's not the actual IP if the router itself. And the Subnet mask is always going to be 255.255.255.0
3) Once you've logged into your router, with only your Phantom 2 Vision turned on do a "Site Survey" to scan for local wifi networks. Choose the one that has a blank SSID or BSSID. After selecting it and choosing ok you will write in the SSID name of your camera, FC200_XXXXXX (the X's being the last 6 digits of the MAC).
4) Change the Routers main name to Phantom_1234 ("1234" can be anything you want)
5) Change the default IP address of the range extender from whatever it is, to 192.168.1.2
6) Turn your Range Extender's DHCP server to ON.
7) Save Settings.
Now you're router should be associated with your FC200_ Camera and have the SSID and MAC ID entered in it's appropriate places.
The main name of the router should now be Phantom_1234 (1234 can be anything) and the router default IP address should be 192.168.1.2 from whatever it was by default, usually 192.168.1.240
Now turn on your Phantom, Turn on your 3rd party range extender (make sure you have antennas screwed into it) and connect to it.
FYI you will need some form of portable battery or small UP Supply. RAVPower makes a nice portable battery that works with everything up to 12v for under $60, this is one options you can consider to power your range extender on the go.
